Eric Antoine : « Souvent on parle d’Alexandra comme d’une femme magicienne, comme si le fait d’être une femme définissait l’artiste. Il est vrai que les femmes sont rares dans ce métier, et c’est bien dommage. Mais pour moi, il n’y a pas de sujet sur cette notion, même si évidemment l’endroit d’où l’on vient, notre sexe, notre âge, et tout influe sur notre écriture et sur notre manière de penser. Mais c’est avant tout une artiste magicienne que je regarde comme tous les autres artistes magiciens ou magiciennes à titre tout à fait égal. Et à ce titre je perçois chez elle une écriture qui lui est très singulière, c’est-à-dire qu’elle a quelque chose que j’apprécie beaucoup, à savoir : l’humour, du second degré voire du troisième degré sur sa pratique magicienne. Et parfois elle dit « Regardez ce que je fais ! »…et c’est incroyable. Elle joue souvent, ce qu’on appelle en anglais le « low expectation », c’est-à-dire qu’elle vous fait croire qu’elle est mauvaise, alors qu’elle est extrêmement douée. Mais au-delà de l’humour, il y a chez elle une véritable empathie vis-à-vis de son public. Tout ce que j’aime !
Et ce que j’affectionne encore plus, c’est sa poésie. Il y a chez elle beaucoup de tendresse et un rapport à l’objet qui est habité. Elle fait tous les standards de magie, qu’elle maitrise à la perfection, mais avec elle, tous les objets prennent une vraie valeur. Ça peut être des objets de son enfance, des objets qui lui rappellent un souvenir, qui lui rappellent un moment de vie, qui lui permettent de raconter une histoire qui lui est personnelle… Et en ça je trouve qu’elle est rare, parce que peu sont les magiciens et magiciennes qui se racontent vraiment dans notre art, et qui ont un propos en dehors de l’effet magique. C’est-à-dire que, ce que j’aime, c’est que le but ne soit pas la surprise, mais que le but soit l’émotion, avec tous ses talents : par l’humour, par la pensée, par le partage, par l’empathie, par la réflexion, et par l’acte magique, par l’acte de l’illusion.
Voilà donc, cela fait d’elle une artiste très complète et avec une vision assez rare, qu’il y a chez peu de magiciens.
Alors, évidemment, elle est définie souvent comme la fille de Dominique Duvivier, qui est un très grand créateur de magie reconnu par tous ses pairs et elle est définie en tant que seule femme magicienne, mais ce sont des spécificités. Ce n’est pas sa singularité. Sa singularité, ce qui fait d’elle l’artiste qu’elle est, c’est beaucoup plus que ça. C’est une pensée qui lui est propre et c’est ça que j’apprécie. J’espère qu’elle creusera cela, car c’est un endroit infini que la pensée singulière, que de penser exactement comme nous pensons. « On ne peut être personne d’autre que soi » et elle incarne bien cette phrase. »

Eric Antoine: « Alexandra is often referred to as a woman magician, as if being a woman defined the artist. It’s true that women are rare in this profession, and that’s a shame. But as far as I’m concerned, there’s no question about that notion, even though obviously where you come from, your sex, your age, and so on, all have an influence on your writing and your way of thinking. But first and foremost she’s a magician, and I look at her in the same way as I look at any other magician. And as such, I see in her a style of writing that is very unique to her, which is to say that she has something that I really appreciate, which is humour, a second degree, even a third degree, about her magic. And sometimes she says « Look what I’m doing! She often plays what we call « low expectation », i.e. she makes you think she’s bad, when in fact she’s extremely talented. But beyond the humour, she has a real empathy with her audience. Everything I love!
And what I like even more is her poetry. There’s a great deal of tenderness about her and she has a real relationship with objects. She does all the standards of magic, which she masters to perfection, but with her, all objects take on a real value. They can be objects from her childhood, objects that remind her of a memory, that remind her of a moment in her life, that allow her to tell a story that’s personal to her… And in that respect I think she’s rare, because there aren’t many magicians who really tell their own stories in our art, and who have a purpose beyond the magical effect. In other words, what I like is that the aim is not surprise, but emotion, with all its talents: through humour, through thought, through sharing, through empathy, through reflection, and through the act of magic, through the act of illusion.
So there you have it, that makes her a very complete artist, with a vision that is rare among few magicians. So, obviously, she is often defined as the daughter of Dominique Duvivier, who is a great creator of magic recognised by all his peers, and she is defined as the only woman magician, but these are specificities. That’s not what makes her special. Her uniqueness, what makes her the artist that she is, is much more than that. It’s her own way of thinking and that’s what I appreciate. I hope she digs into that, because singular thought is an infinite place, to think exactly as we think. « You can’t be anyone else but yourself, and she embodies that phrase very well. »
